The Book of Numbers
Numbers is the book of the wilderness, the long road between redemption and the Promised Land. It is honest about Israel's grumbling and unbelief, and it is full of the patience and faithfulness of God. It is, in many ways, a mirror of the believer's own journey. This commentary walks through it verse by verse.
About This Commentary
Numbers takes the redeemed nation from Mount Sinai to the edge of the Promised Land, a journey that should have taken weeks but stretched to forty years because of unbelief. Along the way we see censuses and marching order, rebellion and judgment, the bronze serpent lifted up, Balaam's donkey, and God's steady faithfulness to an often faithless people.
This commentary covers Numbers verse by verse, with the Hebrew words that sharpen the meaning, verified background, and an Apostolic reading that keeps Christ and the believer's pilgrimage in view. Paul says these things were written as examples and warnings for us (1 Corinthians 10:11). References are given at the foot of each chapter.
