About This Commentary

The Song of Solomon, also called the Song of Songs, is a poem celebrating the love between a bride and her bridegroom. Its presence in Scripture affirms that love and marriage are good gifts of God, to be honored and kept pure. Since ancient times, both Jewish and Christian readers have also heard in it a picture of a greater love: the covenant love between the Lord and His people, who are called His bride throughout Scripture.

This commentary covers the Song verse by verse, with the Hebrew words that sharpen the meaning, verified background, and an Apostolic reading that honors both the literal celebration of married love and the deeper song of Christ and His church. We handle the book with the reverence it deserves. References are given at the foot of each chapter.
