Scripture Reference
Thirty characteristics of God, each grounded in Scripture, each pointing to Jesus Christ as the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
"For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily."
— Colossians 2:9 NKJV
The Foundation
These attributes describe who God is, not separate roles or persons, but facets of the one God who revealed Himself fully in Jesus Christ (John 1:14, Colossians 2:9). When we study the character of God, we are studying the character of Jesus, because in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
Every attribute listed here is an attribute of Jesus. When Isaiah says "I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior" (Isaiah 43:11), and Luke 2:11 calls Jesus "Savior", these passages are saying the same thing about the same Person. This is not coincidence. This is the Apostolic revelation: the God of the Old Testament became flesh in Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 3:16).
Apostolic Insight
The LORD of the Old Testament and Jesus of the New Testament are the same Person. These four connections show how the attributes of God are fulfilled, personally and bodily, in Jesus Christ.
"I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior."
"There is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."
God declared there is no savior apart from Him. The angels declared Jesus is the Savior. One God. One Savior. One Person.
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."
"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep."
David's shepherd is the LORD. Jesus said "I am the good shepherd." Same title. Same Person.
"I am the First and the Last; besides Me there is no God… I am the LORD, who makes all things, who stretches out the heavens alone."
"I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth."
The LORD alone is Redeemer (Isaiah 44:6). Job knew his Redeemer lives. Jesus is that Redeemer, risen and alive (Galatians 3:13).
"The LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary."
"By Him all things were created… and without Him nothing was made that was made."
Isaiah says the LORD created all things. Paul and John say Jesus created all things. The same God, now fully revealed in flesh.
